I have always loved the funky space that makes up Straw Valley so I was thrilled when I heard it would be occupied by Giorgios Hospitality Group with their new restaurant Boheme. Alex and I had the pleasure of dining there recently for dinner and hope to return soon to taste brunch.

The hostess tucked us away in a table set for two in what felt like a cozy living room next to the fireplace (mind that the fire was not burning – it was June in NC, y’all). Although many other guests were ‘joining’ us for dinner, our meal felt intimate and we enjoyed being able to have a conversation to ourselves. After starting with a mocktail for me and a glass of rosé for Alex, we were delighted with the amuse bouche, my favorite component being the rhubarb compote on top of the house-made ricotta. The black truffle butter with fried herbs and sea salt spread over fresh bread, arancini stuffed with local cheeses and delightful veal meatballs rounded out our first course. We kept on saying to each other, “Have you tried this?”, “What about this part?”. Each bite was so tasty that I wanted to make sure we both experienced it.

Our waitress Stacy was lovely with her recommendations and demeanor, bantering with us throughout the meal. Upon her suggestion, Alex got the romenseco salad, which was wonderfully grilled and dressed with a truffle and dukkah dressing. I enjoyed the spring salad with preserved lemon. We both chose seafood mains, and Alex’s snapper with ginger and a cherry sauce, pictured, stole the show. Ending the meal with an herbed crème brûlée was the perfect sweet treat as was talking with Chef Chelsea Mock, who came from the kitchen to check on how our meal went.

Boheme is taking advantage of the unique space it inhabits, and is starting a music series on Sundays and Thursdays in the courtyard. Be sure to mark the grand opening of their courtyard on your calendars for July 10 from 5-10pm. Boheme joins the plethora of fine dining experiences in the area, which is always a great reminder of the wonderful place we live.
