Eko Nugroho and Wayang Bocor – Friday, 8pm – Carolina Performing Arts presents Indonesian artist Eko Nugroho at Memorial Hall this weekend. Eko makes political and social commentary on Indonesian culture using various artistic mediums, inspired by local traditions. The showcase “God Bliss,” a presentation inspired by traditional Indonesian shadow puppetry, tells an intricate story of religion in Java, Indonesia.
Walk with a Doc – Saturday, 10am – Come out, ask questions, and get moving with UNC Wellness, which offers this monthly event to encourage members of the community to take a step in getting active and staying healthy.
Introduction to Botanical Art and Illustration – Saturday, 1pm-4:30pm – North Carolina Botanical Garden hosts an introductory course on botanical art and illustration, taught by professional artist Linda Koffenberger.
Movies at the Library – Saturday, 2:30pm-5pm – Chapel Hill Public Library presents “Hell or High Water,” a 2016 western-style film, starring Chris Pine and Jeff Bridges, about two brothers who go to criminal lengths to save their family ranch. Album Release Party for Gasoline Stove – Saturday, 8pm – Gasoline Stove is a five-piece folk band from Pittsboro, and in Cat’s Cradle’s Back Room, they’ll be hosting their album release party for their latest LP “Laundromat.”
The Tan and Sober Gentlemen Album Release Party – Saturday, 8pm – Snow Camp, NC-based band, The Tan and Sober Gentlemen, celebrate the release of their latest record, “Live on Nash Street,” at Local 506. The band self-describes itself as “Celtic punk-grass,” which they call a blend of Irish and American roots music with a “punk edge.”
