Weekend at a Glance: Shakespeare, Steve Earle & UNC v. Duke

PlayMakers kicks off "Twelfth Night," Grammy winner Steve Earle comes to town and UNC Men's Basketball takes on Duke.

Barbara Davis – Thursday, 7-8pm – Join author Barbara Davis at Flyleaf Books as she discusses her latest fiction novel, “Love, Alice.”

Ajoka Theatre – Thursday, 7:30pm – As part of their Sufi Journey series, Carolina Performing Arts presents Ajoka Theatre in the play “Dara” about the son of a Mughal emperor who is imprisoned and executed by his younger brother.

Twelfth Night  Thursday-Saturday, 7:30pm; Sunday, 2pm – Stop by PlayMakers Repertory Company for a performance of  William Shakespeare’s beloved “Twelfth Night” with a twist. This rendition is sure to please lovers of romance, comedy and the 1950s. 

Department of Music Concert  Thursday, 7:30-9:30pm – Support the UNC Symphony Orchestra and other local musicians as part of the Department of Music’s “Scholarship Series” in Moeser Auditorium.

Ackland Artini – Friday, 7pm – Enjoy specialty cocktails by Jujube, Carolina Crossroads and Top of the Hill while perusing the recently re-installed Asian art galleries at Ackland Art Museum.

Front Country & Big Fat Gap  Friday, 7pm – Head on over to Cat’s Cradle to hear dynamic bluegrass courtesy of Front Country and Big Fat Gap. 

Steve Earle – Friday, 8pm – Get your folk, rock and country jam on with multiple Grammy-winning Steve Earle in his Carolina Performing Arts concert at Memorial Hall.

Love is all Around – Friday, 8pm – Transactor Improv is back at the Carrboro ArtsCenter in this two-act production about love. 

Blue Blood Rivalry Run – Saturday, 9:30am – Run on down to Meadowmont Village to help support your blue of choice in this year’s “Blue Blood Rivalry Run.” 

UNC v. Duke – Saturday, 8pm – Support the Tar Heels in a men’s basketball showdown against cross-town rival Duke. 

UNC Baseball – Saturday, 2pm – Don’t swing and miss UNC playing Long Beach State this weekend at Boshamer Stadium

Underground: A Pop-Up Art Show – Saturday, 4-11pm – Pop in at 128 E. Franklin St. for refreshments, food and fine arts by UNC’s talented students.

Women of Color Making History – Sunday, 2:30-3:30pm – Help honor Mary Vincent, Dorothy Johnson and other women of color that have helped shape this community at Hillsborough Presbyterian Church

The Langston Hughes Project – Sunday, 3-5pm – Come to the UNC Friday Center for an audio-visual performance of Langston Hughes’s “Ask Your Mama: 12 Moods for Jazz.”
