Eleanor-Scott Best thought it peculiar when her then-boyfriend, Hill Davis, suggested she change out of her workout clothes into something a little nicer for their walk through the January snow. She suspected he had something up his sleeve.
Her hunch was right. Their wintry stroll through uptown Charlotte ended with dinner at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel – and a proposal.
The couple met as undergraduates at Wake Forest University, where they spent a semester studying abroad together in Florence. They dated for six years before marrying at First Presbyterian Church in the bride’s hometown of Goldsboro.
An elegant evening reception followed at the Walnut Creek Country Club, where guests danced the night away to the music of a 14-piece big band. In attendance were the bride’s parents, Jack and Ellen Best of Goldsboro, and the groom’s parents, Tom and Dee Davis of Raleigh.
The couple reside in Greenwood. Eleanor-Scott is CHM’s senior associate editor, and Hill is an attorney. CHM
