Book Harvest Book Drive at Flyleaf Books 4

AmeriCorps volunteers accepted donations.

Dr. Martin Luther King's legacies of service and equal opportunity were honored by local nonprofit Book Harvest and Flyleaf Books on Monday, Jan. 16 with a children's book drive and birthday celebration. The book drive brought in more than 10,100 books from community donations -- all of which are already on their way to the children who need them. Carrboro Mayor Mark Chilton, Chapel Hill Mayor Mark Kleinschmidt and local author Daniel Wallace attended the event, which included a reading from the children's book Martin's Big Words: The Life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and cake in honor of Dr. King's birthday.

Check out our slideshow of photos from the event.
