Deepti Rao and Sujit Suchindran planned a wedding celebration so big it spanned two months – and two continents.
The two were married in Chennai, India, with more than 4,000 people attending their ceremony. Their wedding festivities occurred in two cities over two weeks. Then the couple returned to Chapel Hill for a stateside reception at The Carolina Inn.
The couple’s close friends wore Indian clothes to the reception, which featured a henna artist. UNC hip-hop team Kamikazi gave a surprise performance that featured Deepti and Sujit.
In attendance were the bride’s parents, A.S. and Amrit Ramanaprasad, and the groom’s parents, Chirayath and Hamsa Suchindran. Local members of the wedding party included the groom’s brother, Sunil Suchindran, and the sister-in-law, Lipi Vaidya Suchindran.
Sujit is a Chapel Hill native and Chapel Hill High graduate. He met Deepti, who is originally from India, when their mutual friend, Kate McGinigle, introduced them.
Sujit popped the question at Il Palio Ristorante at The Siena Hotel, where he created a romantic atmosphere with Champagne, rose petals and candles.
The newlyweds reside in Chapel Hill. Deepti is working on her doctorate in neurophysiology at UNC, and Sujit is an internal medicine resident at Duke University Medical Center. CHM
