Do you like this?

nov dec 2011 chm cover

Our November/December cover may just be the most inviting ever. I mean, come on. A dog wearing goggles riding around town in a convertible. If that doesn’t make you want to a) smile and b) open our magazine, what will?

Once you have cracked the book open, we think there’s plenty inside to keep you engaged. There’s our cover story, of course, which is really a scrapbook of local dogs – because dogs rule. (See our web extra – a look at three animal nonprofits – here.)

Even the owners of our Great Home know this. They live in a post-modern Hillsborough house with two Portuguese water dogs.

And, in non-dog related content, we celebrate the season with Readers’ Memories of Holidays Past, which involve everything from giving to those in need to an injured Santa Claus. The old black-and-white photos by the late, great Roland Giduz that are in this section are really something.

Then photographer Mackenzie Brough takes a look at the way we worship via her gorgeous photo essay on religious organizations in the area. (For more photos of places of worship, click here.)

Speaking of religion, in our annual section on private schools, we look at schools with a religious mission and examine how parents make the decision to send their kids there.

Because this issue will hit the stands right before Veterans Day, we profile four soldiers with local ties who have made or are making the ultimate sacrifice in Iraq and Afghanistan – including one couple deployed together while their two young kids stay behind in Chapel Hill. (See our web extra on this story – a profile of one more local soldier – here.)

Matt Dees introduces us to the Renner family, who are new to the area but making quite a first impression. Son Bryn is heading up UNC’s football team, daughter Summer is taking the stage at DPAC as a Rockette and dad Bill is coaching the East Chapel Hill High football team.

In Every Issue:

  • Happy New Year & a question please

    Hi,

We are subscribers of CHM and love the local focus. In fact, your May issue featured two of our neighbors the Farmer's Art collection & owners of The Meat House Donna & Paul Coon. That's pretty local. I'm writing because a recent issue featured an area female real estate agent that is very successful and I can't put my hands on the issue now. I suspect one of our Christmas house guests may have packed it away for the return trip to Chicago. Is there some way for me to gain access to the article again? Kathy Mason & Chris Hanke 6 Midstream Court, CH
    Many thanks,
    Kathy
