« Pittsboro Filmmaker's Art and Mental Illness Documentary is Going to Hollywood »
Some of you may remember Philip Brubaker, the young filmmaker with bipolar disorder who we featured in the magazine last January. He had made a film about other people in the community who cope with mental
Philip Brubaker illness by creating works of art, such as paintings, photography or writing.
Brubaker, who grew up in Chapel Hill and now lives in Pittsboro, announced last night (on his Facebook page), that the film has been accepted into its first film festival, the First Glance Film Festival in Hollywood. This is a huge accomplishment for Brubaker, who has entered it into several festivals since it was completed, including the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival in Durham, in efforts to bring it more exposure.
The First Glance Film Festival shows independent films to a public audience, and takes place April 9-11.

One more thing to note: Deirdre Haj, who was a producer of Brubaker's film, was recently hired as executive director of Durham's Full Frame Documentary Film Festival, the biggest film festival of its type in the country.
Big kudos to both!
