Clothes Hound owner Bryce Batts grew up in a small town where shopping "options" were a rarity. Fortunately for us Chapel Hillians, we have boutiques like Clothes Hound to ensure that this is never the case. With contemporary and trendy styles at affordable prices, it may just be worth your while to pay a visit to Franklin Street and explore what this new boutique has to offer.
Batts, a graduate of North Carolina State University, started Clothes Hound as an online boutique while working a full-time job. Since this humble beginning, the boutique has grown to serve customers in two different store locations, one in Raleigh, which opened in June 2011, and the other right here in Chapel Hill, which opened in 2012. Their store philosophy? Treat every customer like one of their girlfriends.
"We welcome everyone," says Batts. "Bring your kid in, we have toys; bring your dog in, we have treats; bring your guy in, we have beer in the fridge and a television! I wanted the store to be inviting and not intimidating."
From T-shirts, jeans and basic essentials to the latest trendy dresses and fashionable jewelry, Clothes Hound houses it all. The boutique's clothes range from $20 to $150 with most of the items falling between $40 and $70.
"I think it's important for customers to be able to buy unique pieces at a boutique without having to make a big investment in them," says Batts.
Clothes Hound features both larger name brands as well as local designers, a number of them from North Carolina.
So if you're looking for a place to splurge on that mid-winter shopping spree you've been thinking about, we have found the perfect place.
"I love meeting all of our customers," says Batts. "The business side can be daunting and is certainly a roller coaster, but I love when we can make a customer happy and when they fall in love with the store."
