Every two seconds, someone in this country needs blood. Men, women and children in hospitals across the U.S. depend on anonymous donations to help save their lives. And for the 24th year in a row, UNC and the American Red Cross are teaming up to ensure this is possible.
The 24th annual Carolina Blood Drive will take place on June 5 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the Dean E. Smith Center.
Donors will automatically be entered to win a $1,000 gift card, courtesy of the American Red Cross. Door prizes also include four UNC football tickets and four UNC men’s basketball tickets. Those who participate in the event will receive a free t-shirt donated by the American Red Cross, and those eligible to donate double red blood cells will receive a free American Red Cross tumbler cup. Last year’s celebrity visitors included names such as Holden and Patti Thorp and basketball legend and radio announcer Eric Montross. Parking for the event is free.
According to the American Red Cross, more than 38,000 blood donations are needed every day. Walk-ins are welcome at the blood drive, but appointments are strongly encouraged. For donor eligibility, online registration, or more information, visit www.unc.edu/blood.
