share the food foundation

In its inaugural year, Southern Season's Share the Food Foundation was able to dole out $10,000 in grants to eight non-profit organizations, including PORCH, Chatham County Council on Aging, Orange Congregations in Mission, Chapel Hill-Carrboro Meals on Wheels, Farmer Foodshare, Community Nutrition Partnership, Chapel Hill-Carrboro Public School Foundation and the Inter-faith Council for Social Service. These grants were distributed based on these organizations' innovative programs and commitment to help end hunger in local communities.

Share the Food Foundation has been pleased with the community's interest in such a project.

"We hope that in the future we will be able to aid even more non-profits in their fight to end the scourge of hunger in our communities," says board member Jay White.

The foundation's first ever fundraising event is scheduled for April 2013, and White pays tribute to the number of Southern Season employees, as well as their family and friends, for providing a solid volunteer base for this new mission effort.

Share the Food Foundation is a non-profit foundation that was established by Southern Season with the mission of fighting hunger and poverty in local communities. The foundation will also provide local organizations, including schools and youth groups, the opportunity to learn techniques of healthy food preparation and nutrition.

The foundation is now accepting grant applications for 2013. To learn more about Share the Food Foundation and access an application, click here.
