Friday, June 17

5-9pm: The ever-popular Fridays On The Front Porch has bluegrass from The Gravy Boys this week, plus picnic and drink specials on the porch of The Carolina Inn.

7pm: It's the third Friday of the month, which means it's time for Efland Night Out. This family-friendly event has free music, games, a live band and a movie at the Efland Ruritan Club.

8pm: The Lloyd Cold Small Ensemble is coming to The ArtsCenter. The English singer-songwriter is best known for his 1984 hit album Rattlesnakes. All tickets are $20 and can be purchased here.

Saturday, June 18

Missy McLamb, UNC graduate and NC-based wedding photographer, will be exhibiting her gallery, "Portraits of Men" this weekend just in time for Father's Day! The exhibit will be at Julian's on Franklin Street. You can see the photographs during regular store hours.

10am-noon: If you have young children, check out the ladybug release at the Little River Regional Park in Rougemont. Help release hundreds of ladybugs into the garden, and learn about the beneficial aspects of ladybugs and why scientists need help studying them. Pre-registration is required and all tickets are $5. Call 732-5505 to register.

11am-4pm: Does Dad like barbecue? Take him to A Southern Season where Dan "The Pigman" Huntley will be sampling his Carolina Pig Pucker sauce and reading and signing his book, Extreme Barbecue: Smokin' Rigs & 100 Real Good Recipes.

Sunday, June 19

11:30am-2pm: The Carolina Crossroads Restaurant is offering a special Father's Day brunch featuring locally grown produce, seasonal fruits and homemade pastries. For reservations, call 918-2735.

4-6pm: We've highlighted it before, but don't forget about An Evening With The Characters of Chapel Hill with our own Freddie Kiger. Kiger will tell stories about Chapel Hill characters from vintage newspapers and the memories of longtime residents. There will be hors d'oeuvres, wine and $5 raffle tickets will be available for purchase. Reservations are $50 per person in advance and $60 per person at the door. Proceeds will benefit the programs of the Chapel Hill Preservation Society. Call 929-1793 for reservations.

7-8:30pm: Southern Village's free Sunday Night Music Series features local band Too Much Fun, playing a mix of rhythm and blues, rock and folk.
