Now in its fifth year, the Orange County Literary Council's annual fundraiser, the Writers for Readers gala and luncheon, is drawing big names from the writing world.

Daniel Wallace, bestselling author of Big Fish, will emcee the luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Carolina Inn on Feb. 20 with Lee Smith, acclaimed author of Mrs. Darcy and the Blue-Eyed Stranger, acting as honorary chair. The luncheon will host four major authors, from poets and Pullitzer Prize winners to bestsellers. The lineup features Robert Goolrick, author of the New York Times bestselling novel A Reliable Wife; Marisa de los Santos, author of the New York Times bestseller Love Walked In; Natasha Trethewey, Pulitzer Prize winner in poetry and author of Domestic Work; and Kevin Wilson, author of Family Fang, chosen as one of the top 10 books of 2011 by People, Esquire and Time. The writers will speak about their current work and the continued importance of promoting literacy.

For a more intimate affair, the Meet the Authors Gala Reception will be held the night before on Feb. 19 at the home of UNC President Thomas Ross and Susan Ross from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Tickets to the gala are $125, and tickets to the luncheon are $65. All proceeds will go to the OCLC, a Carrboro-based nonprofit that offers services in reading, writing, math and GED preparation and English for Speakers of Other Language. All tickets are available here.
