The Chapel Hill Philharmonia presents a classical music concert aptly titled “The Great Outdoors”. Guest conductor Evan Feldman will lead the orchestra in Berlioz’s “Roman Carnival Overture” followed by Sibelius’s appealing “Karelia Suite”. Beethoven’s Symphony #6, the Pastorale Symphony, concludes the program. Each piece is both pictorially descriptive and expressive. Italy’s Roman carnival is exuberantly portrayed musically by Berlioz, while Finnish folk melodies and history are tunefully incorporated by Sibelius. Beethoven loved hiking in the outdoors, and his five movement symphony beautifully provides “recollections of country life”.
