The Chapel Hill Philharmonia will perform three well-loved classical compositions. Conductor Donald Oehler will lead the orchestra in Wagner’s “Overture to Rienzi,” an early audience favorite. Ravel’s mesmerizing “Bolero” will follow. Mozart’s intense Symphony #40 concludes the program. Ravel’s work is noted for requiring an expanded orchestra, with saxophones and extra percussion. The symphony by Mozart, in contrast, shrinks the orchestra to a small complement of winds and strings.
