Music Maker Relief Foundation, in partnership with Carrboro Recreation and Parks, will present a new outdoor Blues series in Carrboro this spring, Freight Train Blues. The series will include Blues performances from Southern Roots & Blues musicians from 6-8pm on May 15, 22, 29 and June 5 in the Carrboro Town Commons (Farmer’s Market location). The series lineup includes musicians who work with Music Maker Relief Foundation as partner artists. Many, like Hillsborough resident John Dee Holeman, are NC locals, but the lineup also includes artists from afar such as PeeWee Hayes, from Racine, WI. The series’ title comes from the popular blues song sung by Carrboro native Libba Cotten, whose musical influence can still be felt in the region today. The events are also sponsored by Steel String Brewery and the Carrboro Tourism & Development Authority. Steel String will be selling beer at all concerts, and there will also be food trucks on site.
