Folksinger Lukas Papenfusscline makes use of his background in classical, jazz, and traditional music to recompose conventional folk songs with fresh harmony, adapted stories, and haunting, soaring vocal lines. Recommended if you like Sam Amidon and Nina Simone, Lukas also pushes the boundaries of performance practice by delving into his abilities as both an actor and director of theatre.
Vocally Lukas has trained classically yet also follows the folk tradition of hollering, focusing his large voice within haunting mountain melodies. Lukas can be heard both as a solo artist with only his guitar and banjo, and with a full band, amplifying his arrangements with electric guitar, drums, keys, harmonies, and other sounds.
“Driving each song home with an Appalachian wail that can only be described as aggressively charming”
