Calling all young athletes! Join us at Briar Chapel for the Tar Heel Youth Triathlon Saturday, August 2, from 6:30 to 7:15 a.m. Contestants between the ages of six and 10 must compete in the short course and contestants ages 11 to 15 must race the long course. As an introductory triathlon experience, the event includes: • Swimming: The race begins with either a 100-yard swim (short course) or 200-yard swim (long course) swim in Briar Chapel’s 25-yard pool using a time-trial start format • Biking: After completing the swim, the contestants will run to the transition area, located in the Briar Club parking lot, where they will retrieve their bikes to begin either a 2-mile (short course) or a 4-mile (long course) out-and-back style ride. • Running: After returning their bikes to the transition area, the kids will run either a 1k loop (short course) or a 2k loop (long course) on the quiet streets near the Briar Clubhouse, where they will finish. Contestants must be between the ages of 6-15 in order to enter the triathlon, and age groups are divided by year. Every participant will receive a medal and prizes will be awarded to the top three male and female overall as well as in each age group. Age groups include: 6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15. The cost of the race is $50 for USAT members and $60 for non-USAT members. Packet pickup will be held on Saturday, August 1 from 3-6 p.m. at Fleet Feet Carrboro located at 310 E. Main Street, Carrboro.
