Too Much Fun

Studio recordings are all well and good, but the spirit, the energy, the humor and the interaction of the band in the live setting is the best way to enjoy Too Much Fun. Not only can you count on ‘genuine dance-ability’ from the tunes, there are also the jokes, the quizzes , the tributes and general good-natured goofiness that sometimes emanates from the stage. Come out and see for yourself!

Hill Country Cosmopolitans
Texas Swing

A while back, three guys came together in a living room in Hillsborough, NC, to run through some 30s and 40s-era Western Swing dude-ranch favorites. Bringing a touch of Texas to Carolina, they decided to call themselves the Hill Country Cosmopolitans…and expanded their repertoire to include a little bit of country and honky tonk and even jazz as well. Danceable, catchy and infectious, Western Swing has a universal charm that people find irresistible…and the Hill Country Cosmopolitans want to share that fun with you at the next barn dance, beer joint, skull orchard, hoedown, shiv-a-ree, wedding, funeral, wake, bar mitzvah, cut ‘n shoot, pig pickin, BBQ, supermarket grand opening, car show, turkey shoot, party or family reunion near you.

Swift Creek
www.swiftcreekmusic.com

Swift Creek’s name pays tribute to the origins of this Americana/Bluegrass band, formed six years ago in Central NC near meandering Swift Creek. Their highly original songs feature strong traditional and progressive bluegrass influences, a touch of country and a healthy dose of folk. Driving guitar and bass support the band’s signature three-part harmony singing, punctuated with impressive mandolin, fiddle and banjo solos.

The lineup is Kevin Brown, whose strong tenor leads, rhythm guitar and songwriting frame the band’s sound; Casey Elder, expertly playing the mandolin and dobro; award-winning fiddler Stephen Fraleigh, also playing the banjo; bassist Dennis Hoyle setting the beat; and vocalist Ann Searcy, adding bluesy leads and spot-on harmony singing.

Swift Creek’s debut CD ‘Winner Winner Chicken Dinner’ was produced at The Rubber Room in Chapel Hill, NC and released in August 2012. Tracks from the CD have been featured on radio, including WQDR’s ‘Pinecone Bluegrass’ show and WUNC’s ‘Back Porch Music.’

‘Magnolia’, the band’s sophomore album was released on April 8, 2016. Brown’s songwriting is prominently featured on the new tracks which have a unique Southern vibe. Swift Creek reached the 100-show milestone recently, with performances at many well-known area venues.

Erich Lieth – Jazz
http://www.erichlieth.com/index.html

Erich discovered his passion for improvising 40 years ago. He plays a range of instruments including recorders, flute, guitar and wind controller, though his specialty is keyboards. After completing his PhD work in Neuroscience at the University of North Carolina, he spent 20 years doing research and teaching Neuroscience and Anatomy but never gave up his love for playing and teaching music. He has taught individual and group lessons for the last 35 years, both for improvisation and conventional music lessons. He performs regularly with the Latin band Saludos Company, his world-beat vocal jazz group One Sun and other local groups. He teaches privately in Chapel Hill, directs the Emerson Waldorf School Jazz Band and instructs music invention for the Piedmont Youth and Family Orchestra. Since 2013, he has been the founder and Executive Music Director for the Blame It On My Youth Jazz Orchestra, a premier jazz ensemble of teen musicians. He strives to help people of all ages learn to express themselves through playing music.

Saludos Company – Latin Music
http://www.saludoscompay.com/index.php

Saludos Company takes the audience on a musical tour that features traditional, contemporary and original music from Latin America and the Caribbean. This amazingly versatile trio keeps toes tapping.

Lead vocalist/guitarist Pablo Valencia, from Chile, sings a wide range of styles. He is as much at ease with a reflective bolero as with an upbeat salsa. The group performs a number of Valencia’s acclaimed original compositions, such as the romantic ‘Canción Para Dos’, the rumba ‘Bello Amor’, and the very upbeat salsa song ‘Entumido’. On keyboards, Erich Lieth adds spice to the strong Latin rhythms with improvisational piano solos and bass. Chuck Nolan, lead percussionist, intricately weaves the rhythm patterns, be it for a subtle bossa nova or a danceable cumbia.

The Heart of Carolina Jazz Orchestra

Since 1990, The Heart of Carolina Jazz Orchestra has played for thousands of jazz enthusiasts around North Carolina at schools, artscenters, festivals, dances and more. More than 35 guest artists have performed at the Jazz Society’s Temple Theatre series in Sanford. In 2002, the Orchestra’s book had over 240 tunes and their catalogue has grown since then. The book includes a carefully considered repertoire of pieces that reflect a wide range of Big Band jazz styles and arrangements. Included are classics such as ‘Two O’clock Jump’, ‘Stompin’ at the Savoy’, and ‘Frenesi’, as well as many ballads such as ‘The Nearness of You’, ‘Imagination’ and ‘September Song’. That’s a far cry from the 10 or so tunes in the book at their first Fearrington Fall Fling where they had to play pieces twice and some thrice to fill the time!
