What better place to learn the story of someone’s life than in his library? Retired Chapel Hill High School English teacher David Bruton and his partner, Duff Coburn, director of technology and assistant head of school at Triangle Day School, use this space in their Lystra Drive area home in northern Chatham County to hold not only the books that changed the way they think, but also family artifacts and furnishings that are warm and classic. The getaway is a fine place to enjoy a glass of single malt scotch, kick back with some Faulkner and spark a fire. “We frequently comment how comfortable it seems,” says Bruton. “It’s like we’re in a different place when we come in here.” CHM
