jldoc wine gala 9

Kim Leder; Betsy Lovell; Shannon Tucker, president of the Junior League of Durham and Orange Counties; and Rickey Padgett.

I had such a great time last night at the Wine Gala presented by the Junior League of Durham and Orange Counties and hosted by The Fresh Market in Chapel Hill. The evening featured a diverse selection of wines from Ararat Import Export Company in Raleigh, complemented by delicious appetizers and desserts provided by The Fresh Market. The event, now in its fourth year, had a huge turnout of members who enjoyed mingling with friends while tasting the different wines at stations set up around the store.

At the first table by the store's entrance, I tried the Mirabueno Sauvignon Blanc, which had tones of citrus that paired well with the shrimp cocktail served there. At Table 4, I sampled the Della Scala Montepulciano with a dry rich taste and deep ruby color that made me feel like I was sitting at a restaurant in Italy. At the same table I tasted The Fresh Market's Signature Premoo Cheese with Savory Jam that was truly to die for. Other appetizers I enjoyed included a Smoked Salmon Blini, Maryland Style Crab Cake and Caramel Pecan Brie. To finish off the night, I stopped by Table 11, where Brad of Ararat poured me some Emeri Sparkling Pink Moscato and I sampled one (or two or three) of the Godiva Chocolates. Perfection.

The gala was held to raise money for the Junior League's volunteer and community projects. The fundraiser continues tomorrow (Sat. April 14) from 10am-3pm with the annual Home Roam Kitchen Tour, which will feature homes in Governors Club in Chapel Hill. An added feature this year is the Trolley Tour, which sounds like a fun way to travel from home to home. Tickets are $25 each or $45 for two ($5 extra to take the Trolley Tour) and may be purchased online here.
