Ann Wilkerson, Joanne McClelland and Nicki Williams.

The Chapel Hill-Carrboro area alumnae chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority celebrated its third annual Queen of Hearts Gala Saturday. The gala aimed to increase awareness of cardiovascular disease and raise funds for local scholarships. They honored Dr. Debra Barksdale, associate professor in the School of Nursing at UNC for her research of cardiovascular disease in African Americans.

Delta Sigma Theta is an international public service organization. The Chapel Hill-Carrboro area chapter has 80 members. They award scholarships to high school seniors, educate the community on socio-political issues, offer parenting workshops for pregnant and parenting teens and empower girls through self-enrichment activities.
