The annual art contest and exhibition, which started in 2009, features designs by local artists made entirely from discarded objects as a way to educate and promote the value of recycling in our community.

"Up Close & Personal" is an artwork commissioned by Chapel Hill's Cultural Arts office and completed by the senior community under the direction of textile artist Jan-Ru Wan. Panels of material were sewn & painted to produce a 12'x17' wall hanging.

The cooking school staff goes strawberry picking before class, and then children ages 9 and older are invited to help transform them into a variety of delectable treats. Savory sandwiches are made to round out the meal.
