Last week I had the privilege of attending The Parlour at Manns Chapel launch event. My husband was the general contractor on the project, so it was a wonderful evening celebrating such a neat, historical event space coming together. I loved seeing all the details of the chapel and also enjoyed the local food artisans sharing their products (shocking being interested in the food, I know). While I saw many of my favorites, including Chicken Bridge Bakery, Goat Lady Dairy and Fullsteam Brewery, I also got to sample some Triangle specialities that were new to me. If you are a pie lover like me, you too would have fallen in love with Slice Pie Company. After trying their mixed berry pie, I had to go back and try a piece of the key lime. In full disclosure, the pieces were small so trying more than one flavor was a necessity.
Not only were their baked good delicious, but I appreciate how they run the business as a family and refuse to share the secret to their flaky pie crust. I tried to get the recipe out of them, but to no avail. I have to admit that if I won a blue ribbon at the State Fair for my pie that I would not share the recipe either.
As always, I am grateful that we have so many wonderful options around us. When I am looking to share a bit of N.C. with those I love out of state, I may just mail them a pie.
