Weekend at a Glance: Movies, Meetings & The Monti

Meet the Author Tea – Thursday, 3:30-5pm – Meet Bronwen Dickey, the author of “Pit Bull: The Battle over an American Icon” and contributing author to The Oxford American, over tea at the Chapel Hill Public Library.

Movies Under the Stars – Thursday, 8:30pm – Join the Town of Chapel Hill and the Chapel Hill Downtown Partnership in the first of six movies that will play at Wallace Parking Deck all throughout this summer. This week’s movie? “The Mighty Ducks.”

Art of Asia: Court and Capital – Friday, 6:30-8:30pm –  Ackland Art Museum is hosting a wine and hors d’oeuvres reception to celebrate their new exhibition, “Court and Capital,” which shows off the splendor of Asian capital cities. Listen to several speeches by art experts before joining the speakers in small groups to tour the exhibit.

Fundraising Cookout – Saturday, 4-9pm – The Hillsborough Arts Council is hosting a cookout to celebrate its 30th anniversary at 1408 St. Mary’s Road. There’s a little something for everyone: live music, games, face-painting, giveaways and even an outdoor movie at dusk.

Movies @ the Library – Saturday, 2:30-5pm – Chapel Hill Public Library is showing “La La Land” as a part of their Movies @ the Library series where they show films for adults free of charge.

The Monti: Season Finale – Saturday, 8pm – The Monti, a nonprofit whose mission is to create community through the telling of stories, will tell one last tale at their season finale at The ArtsCenter.
