Weekend at a Glance: Movies, Music and MAY-hem with Goats

THURSDAY

PopUp Broadway – Get your Broadway fix at the ArtsCenter, where you can learn and perform a popular Broadway song in a no-judgment, high-fun environment. This month’s featured songs will be “Beauty School Dropout” and “Summer Nights” from the musical “Grease.”

FRIDAY

Layered Lives Art Show & Sale – Head over to the ArtsCenter to be wowed by this exhibit, which features more than 100 pieces including paintings, prints and photo collages by artists Ron Liberti, Harry Lane Wurster and the late Roger Kellison. A portion of the sales will go to UNC Hospice

Family Movie – Bring the whole family to the Chapel Hill Public Library for a viewing of “The Greatest Showman.” Don’t miss out on the popcorn.

Freight Train Blues – This fourth annual music series at Carrboro Town Commons boasts artists like Ernie Vincent and Guitar Lightnin’ Lee and will celebrate the life and legacy of Grammy award-winning Piedmont blues legend Elizabeth “Libba” Cotten. The outdoor performances will be complemented with food trucks.

Jaws Fest ’18 – This all-weekend event features live music with some of the Triangle’s most popular bands, dances, a human foosball tournament, vendors and a food truck rodeo.

SATURDAY

Movies by Moonlight – Spend your evening on the Southern Village Green, enjoying an outdoor movie hosted by The Lumina as part of their 2018 Outdoor Movie Series. This weekend’s show is “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.”

Memorial Day Weekend BBQ – Kick off the long weekend with this Southern Season event featuring live music and all your favorite foods. Fill up on freshly grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, cobbler and other all-American dishes.

Goat MAY-hem – Cuddle with baby goats all weekend at Spring Haven Farm! You can also get to know the baby chicks, piglets and horses. Don’t miss out on the hayride, the farm tractor train or face painting.

SUNDAY

Dana & Sue Robinson – This evening concert will feature original folk music at the Southern Village Green. Picnics are encouraged!
