May I see your passport please ~.* … This workshop will be a musical journey through 2 continents and several Islands. It will begin with Alex sampling each drum. Explaining it’s origin and sharing a popular rhythm for each drum or percussion instrument. The drums include: talking drum, djembe, dun nun, Kenkeni, dumbek, Moroccan drums, conga, bongos, bass drum and a wide array of percussion instruments. Short break for coconut water, fruit & nuts… The next part will be hands on, as we form a drum circle and begin sampling some rhythms and the language of the drum. Alex & the tri-lingual congera Li-Lan can provide the foundation and rhythmic structure to explore through. Alex will also provide context by playing some of the songs on flute or cornet that go with the rhythms, like: Samba, cumbia, calypso… This experience can be outdoors, weather permitting.
