Hike NC Guided Hike @ Dorothea Dix Park

This fall, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina and the North Carolina State Parks continue Hike NC, a series of more than 60 free guided hikes across North Carolina’s state parks, nature preserves and your local community parks. Each hike will be led by the state’s top hiking and nature experts.

Join us on a walking tour of Dorothea Dix Park, where we will be discussing the history, current use and future plans for the park.

Cornucopia Cancer Support Center Golf Tourney @ Lochmere Golf Club

Join us for Cornucopia’s 13th Annual Golf Tourney benefit this year for what promises to be a terrific day on the links, supporting the Triangle’s only non-clinical cancer support center – Monday, Sept. 18 at Lochmere Golf Club in Cary.

Join us for an every-Wednesday after-work hike on the bike ‘n’ bridle trail at Umstead. We’ll meet at 6 p.m. at the Lake Crabtree neighborhood entrance to the park, walk out to the cemetery and return. The total distance of this hike is 5 miles, but feel free to turn around at any time. The hike is a mellow climb out and a mellow descent back. This is a great introduction to hiking for beginners and a good aerobic workout for more experienced hikers. Our hike leader will hang in the back with the beginners.

Hike NC Guided Hike @ Falls Lake State Recreation Area Yorkshire Office: Mountains-To-Sea Trail
Sep 22 @ 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm

Join a park ranger for an evening hike along the lake in honor of the fall equinox. This easy-to-moderate hike covers approximately 2 miles of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail, with periodic educational stops along the way. Participants will have to park outside of the gate, along the shoulders of the road, and we will hike in from there.

Hike NC Guided Hike @ Eno River State Park: Cox Mountain Trail
Sep 23 all-day

Join us for a 2-3 hour hike along the Eno River in Durham, NC. We’ll follow the blue dots that mark the Cox Mountain Trail from the loop parking area at the very end of Cole Mill Road. This is a moderate hike with a steep uphill at the beginning.

Kay Yow Cancer Fund’s Inaugural Golf Celebration @ Lonnie Poole Golf Course

Hike NC Guided Hike @ Eno River State Park Cole Mill Access: Pea Creek And Dunnagan Trails
Sep 30 @ 10:30 am – 12:30 pm

Join a park ranger at Cole Mill Access of Eno River for a 3-mile round trip hike that will cover the Pea Creek and Dunnagan Trails. We are likely to see abundant wildflowers, but mostly we will be hiking to enjoy the sweet fall air and the beauty of the North Carolina Piedmont. This is an easy to moderate trail.

Hike NC Guided Hike @ Lake Johnson Park: West Loop

We will be hiking a mild to moderate difficulty, dirt/mulch trail that makes a 1.64 mile loop around the west end of Lake Johnson. Part of the area we will be hiking through is designated as environmentally sensitive due to some uncommon plant species that have historically been found there. Along this trail there is the possibility of seeing many types of wildlife such as blue herons, wood ducks, deer, and if we are really lucky, beavers and/or otters. This hike will also offer views of the lake and some wetland habitat.

Hike this newly completed trail that travels through forested parklands to the banks of Falls Lake. This hike will be roughly 3 miles out and back, and will include hiking on multi-use and single-track hiking trails. Additional hikes are also available in the park.
